The Gingerbreads Hit The Road

By Callum Boyle

Grantham make the trip to Staffordshire this weekend as they face Hednesford Town away from home.

The Gingerbreads will be hoping for back to back wins under management duo Paul Rawden and Russ Cousins, following Saturday's 2-0 win at home to Matlock, with a trip to Hednesford Town tomorrow.

Second half goals from Chris Dawson and Jordan Adebayo-Smith, combined with a stout defensive performance, were enough to claim the points for the Gingerbreads and keep their place in 16th and remain six points clear of the relegation zone.

Hednesford had a similar season to the Gingerbreads to date and sit one place above Grantham in 15th place on the same points. The Pitmen also tasted victory in their last match - with a 1-0 win midweek at home to Hyde.

The Gingerbreads will also be looking to prevent the home side from doing the double after they stole the points at the death at the Meres earlier in the season.

Jack McGovern had levelled the reverse fixture from the penalty spot only for the Gingerbreads to concede in the last minute to go down 2-1. However, the Gingerbreads have happy memories of last season's visit to Keys Park, with a 3-1 win being their first ever at the venue.

Grantham boss Rawden believes his side have adapted well to the management team's way of approaching matches. Ahead of this weekend's fixture he said: "The side have really got to grips with the tactics we have implemented and have gelled very well considering the big turnover in the squad."

"They performed very well last time out against Matlock and I am looking to them to continue that this weekend in another tough fixture."

"We already know the quality they possess, but at the same time, we have our own qualities and are more than capable of picking up another important win."

Jamie Jackson is included in the squad after the striker rejoined from Matlock Town earlier this week.

Tom Ward has been taking his vitamins and been tucked up in bed early every night and is fully fit. There remain no other injury concerns for Russ and Paul to contend with.
