The Gingerbreads teach Ilkeston a lesson

Simon Hayes5 Dec 2016 - 13:42

After enjoying a week off, The Gingerbreads looked like they were all ready to take on old/new rivals Ilkeston FC this afternoon.

The Gingerbreads disappoint either

Sam Purcicoe made his first start since reurning from injury, in replace of the suspended Stefan Galinski.

Within the opening 10 minutes, The Gingerbreads found themselves 2-0 up. Before the goals though Danny Meadows saw his header blocked and Tom Batchelor managed to fire over when he capitlaised on the Ilkestons defensive hesitation.

The opening goal came on 7 minutes, Ellis Storey broke down the left and put a great cross into the box, which found Danny Meadows who put the ball across line from 6 yards out.

It was only minutes later that the travelling Black and White Army were once again rejoicing. Ilkeston failed to clear a cross but Felipe Barcelos knew exactly what to do and volleyed home! 2-0!

The Gingerbreads continued to pester the Ilkeston defence. On the half hour mark Felipe Barcelos saw his shot blocked low down. Ellis Storey seemed to enjoying his return to the club he once played for after another run and cross Harry Clifton headed wide.

Another former Ilkeston player, Luke Shaw was also enjoying his return to the New Manor Ground. Just before half time Harry Clifton put a cross into him but Shaw couldn't beat the Ilkeston keeper.

Luke Shaw made The Gingerbreads third goal, in his usual style he drove towards the box and put a cross in towards Lee Shaw but it didn't make The Gingerbreads striker instead it was met by the Ilkeston defender Connor Walters who bundled the ball into the net off his head and hand.

Birthday boy Luther Wildin saw his shot blocked by the keeper and Felipe tried to turn in the rebound but this was blocked too.

Ilkeston threatened very little. Tom Batchelor had a header cleared off the line, Danny Meadows got on the loose ball and his shot came off the post.

The final whistle was greeted with great joy from the travelling support, who witnessed a great hard working and dominant performance.

The Gingerbreads again have a week off and are next in action away at Halesowen on Saturday.
