What a Win in Whitby

What a Win in Whitby

Simon Hayes5 Dec 2016 - 13:45

Goals in each half from Lee Shaw gave The Gingerbreads their first away win since August.

The Gingerbreads Manager, Adam Stevens named an unchanged side from that who beat Frickley on Saturday.

The current league leaders hadn't lost at home in the league this season and everyone expected a difficult match, however from the off The Gingerbreads defended from the front attacked at pace.

The first real chance of the half fell to The Gingerbreads, when Rhys Lewis rattled the cross bar on 13mins. 3 minutes later Stefan Galinski saw his header from a corner well saved. Whitby however pushed forward and Kieran Preston was able to get his finger tip to a free kick and put the ball over the bar. The opening 20 minutes were frantic but The Gingerbreads just edged it.

It was a Whitby error that gifted The Gingerbreads the lead on 26minutes. Lee Shaw closed down the Whitby keeper Shane Bland and Bland's clearance hit Lee and the ball found itself nestle in the net much to the delight of the travelling faithful.

Lee Shaw almost made it 2 just 7 minutes later but his shot went just wide. Rhys Lewis saw a 20 yard strike well saved. 5 minutes before the half time whistle Ellis Storey headed over from a Danny Meadows cross.

There were no changes at half time but the work rate of Felipe Barcelos and Lee Shaw kept the Whitby defence on edge. On 60 minutes Harry Clifton was able to break free and put a pass to Lee Shaw who shot wide and was also flagged offside.

A minute later The Gingerbreads broke free but the referee pulled play back, as Luther Wildin was down injured, much to the annoyance of the away side as there was a clear advantage.

It was soon 2-0 to The Gingerbreads as Lee Shaw again broke free and was able to fire home on 74 minutes.

Whitby made 3 changes and so did The Gingerbreas with Michael Hollingsworh, Jeremiah Dasaolu and Andy Wright coming on for Rhys Lewis, Felipe Barcelos and Luke Shaw.

Jeremiah Dasaolu had a shot late on that went well wide, but ate into the 5 minutes additional time.

The full time was greeted by great joy by the supporters who had made the journey to the seaside.
