It ended 2-2 at Ewan Fields as Grantham took a point from their visit Hyde on Saturday.
On a bright sunny afternoon on a perfect surface Grantham began brightly forcing 2 corners in the opening 10 minutes and Lee Beeson testing Hyde keeper Ollerenshaw with a 30 yard free kick which was turned away at full stretch by the keeper. On 8 minutes Ollenshaw handled the ball outside his area to prevent a Grantham but instead of the expected red card referee Mr Mainwaring only produced yellow. Hyde came more into the game twice forcing successive corners and on 25 minutes Jake Turner saved smartly from a Hyde free kick. Lee Ndlovu ( Pictured) went close for Grantham on 27 minutes when after rounding the keeper his goal bound shot was cleared off the line by a Hyde defender. The game was being played at a high tempo with both sides looking for the opening goal. Jake Turner turned over a shot from Hyde’s Ayrton Bevan and it was the same player who gave Hyde the lead somewhat against the run of play on 29 minutes when he converted after a Hyde corner was headed back across goal. Hyde pressed for a second goal and it nearly came when Scott Spencer was put through but Turner was out quickly to block the Hyde strikers shot with his legs.
Grantham began the second half on the attack and the equalising goal came on 50 minutes. Danny Meadows headed an Ellis Storey cross back across the six yard box and Lee Ndlovu with his back to goal back heeled the ball home to the delight of the Grantham fans behind the goal. Hyde were back in front 5 minutes later when a through ball cut open the defence for Bevin’s to fire the ball home for his second goal of the afternoon. Hyde keeper Ollerenshaw clearly made contact with Ben Saunders as he went past him on 62 minutes but the Grantham striker stayed on his feet and his shot was cleared by a defender. Grantham introduced Lee Shaw for Ben Saunders on 70 minutes and 3 minutes later Hyde were reduced to 10 men when defender James Burke received his second yellow card for his second deliberate hand ball of the afternoon. Grantham were now well on top but Hyde still posed a threat on the break and Spencer turned in the box but his shot was straight at Turner. Michael Emmett almost equalised for Grantham on 76 minutes but saw his curling shot from outside the box come back off the woodwork with the keeper beaten. Grantham brought on Liam Read for Jack Beckett as they pushed forward for an equaliser and it nearly came on 78 minutes when Ollerenshaw save Emmott’s effort with his legs. The deserved equaliser came a minute later when Ellis Humble latched onto a loose ball in the box to net for Grantham. Grantham brought on Stefan Bilyk for Ndlovu for the final 5 minutes but despite Grantham dominating for this and the 3 minutes of added time Hyde hung on and the points were shared.
