Newark & Sherwood come to Town

The road to Wembley continues for The Gingerbreads as they face Newark & Sherwood United at The Meres in the Emirates FA Cup today.


It will be the first competitive fixture of the two sides. Newark & Sherwood, known as the Highway Men, currently play in the UCL Premier Division at while they are looking to get back to playing in Newark after being made to leave their Lowfields ground due to housing redevelopment, they are currently playing at Harrowby United.


The Gingerbreads Louis Bland "Whenever you get a Cup draw, the one you want is at home and against a team lower in the pyramid than you. That's what we have but we're under no illusion that it will be a tough test. They have players who can compete at our level, ones that have been at this level and young exciting players."


In the previous round Newark & Sherwood played AFC Rushden & Diamonds, two goals from Keiran Cummines either side of half time gave the home side the win


"We know that if they beat us, it will be the first time they've reached that far in the competition. Our job is to be focused and to get into the Second Qualifying Round for the first time in 4 years"
