REST IN PEACE FORMER GINGERBREAD JIMMY JACKSON

Anna Jackson1 Mar - 16:43

Ex-Gingerbread, Jimmy Jackson, sadly passes away after a long illness.

Grantham Town FC and the remaining ex Gingerbread team mates of Jimmy Jackson’s are shocked and saddened to hear of his recent death after a long illness.

Jimmy like many of the Terry Bly era, was swooped up out of local football and encouraged to nurtured to raise his game.

Signed by Terry in 1969/70 season when the team finished runners up in the Midland League and then followed back to back league winners in 1970/71 and 1971/72 followed by Southern League North winners in 1972/73 and Southern Premier League runners up in 1973/74 plus the FA Cup win over Rochdale FC .
When Jimmy finished his career at the Gingerbreads he had totted up 334 games and 49 goals.

Equally at ease up front where his superb ability in the air caused opposition defence’s nightmares or in midfield or defence where again his heading ability proved invaluable to the team.

Couple all this with his wonderful cheerful manner and total commitment to the team whether it be in the starting line up or as substitute and his team mates regarded themselves as very lucky to have 'Jacko' in our squad.

He had until the last couple of years turned out on the golf course regularly with former team mates Ernie Nixon, Bob Norris , Andy Crawford and the late Gerry Taylor and the banter about our Gingerbread years continued around the eighteen holes.

Jimmy was simply a super lad, both on and off the field and will be missed by all who knew him and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
