Match Preview - Lancaster City (H)

The Gingerbreads look to bounce back from defeat on Tuesday night.

The Gingerbreads are looking to bounce back following Tuesday night's defeat to Buxton; despite a spirited performance from the Gingerbreads, they were undone by one of this season's more fancied sides. But the Gaffer wasn't too disappointed:

"We knew that our first six matches are tough, and with the quality of player that Buxton have in the squad means they will be competing for top spot. That was evident on Tuesday. But I thought either side of the goals I thought we played really well and did some really good things."

"I'm not happy that we've conceded from our corner and hit on the counter, but for long spells I thought we were the better side. But I've no complaints with the result."

"I hope the fans can see what we’re trying to do, how we’re trying to play and ultimately gets us results."

With regards to how the first two games have gone, the Gaffer had the following to say:

"We knew what to expect from the league. We've faced two good teams in our first two games, and a lot of the players we've come up against could play higher. It's a tough league and a tough start!"

Saturday's opponents Lancaster City have also started the season with a win and a defeat from their two games, bouncing back from a 1-0 loss at home to Whitby Town on opening day by winning 3-2 at Witton Albion in midweek. As ever, a tough encounter is in store in the quest for three points!

Looking ahead, Carlton was upbeat:

"A good side doesn't lose two on the spin, so as long as we maintain our performance levels and show the spirit I've seen so far, we'll not go far wrong. We've got an away win on the board, and that's great. The next aim is a home win. Six points from the first three games would be an excellent start".

Supporters will have noticed a familiar face on the bench in recent weeks, the former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman, who again links up with Carlton Palmer following time together at the Owls and at Mansfield Town.

The Gaffer is delighted with Kevin's contribution so far:

"He's a calming influence and has seen it all in the game. He's done his coaching badges, offers me another pair of eyes during the week and on a matchday, compliments the set up, and is also an excellent goalkeeping coach. We have a fantastic young keeper in Jim Pollard, who will only benefit from Kevin's coaching."

The Club can confirm the arrival of young goalkeeper Nathan Popple, who will be signing on dual forms and remaining with Winterton Rangers.

The management team consider Nathan to be highly-rated and will provide strong competition for Jim Pollard, as well as being coached by Kevin Pressman.

Welcome to the club Nathan!

Jordan Lonchar continues to get minutes under his belt with Handsworth FC, and was on target in The Ambers' 3-2 over Garforth Town in midweek.
