Grantham midfielder Fernando Bell-Toxtle said the fans played a huge role in his decision to join Grantham permanently.

The midfielder, who joined the Gingerbreads in the summer after an initial loan spell from Basford United in the second half of last season, was quick to thank the black and white army for their support.

“The fans were definitely a big factor in coming back.

“The away days at Gainsborough and Farsley Celtic were memorable ones where we picked up good points and the support from the fans both home and away was fantastic.

“When I first came to Grantham I was coming back from injury, so I was very grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to play regularly and get my confidence back up.

“I am very happy to be back, and I can’t wait to get the season started.”

Bell-Toxtle was speaking after an open training session on Tuesday night where supporters of the Gingerbreads were invited to watch the squad train ahead of their final pre-season match on Saturday against Stamford, as well as meet the new members of the squad.

The youngster believes that pre-season has been successful, and the squad is looking strong ahead of the season-opener against FC United of Manchester a week on Saturday.

“Pre-season has gone well. There’s a good vibe and we have a strong squad together this year.

“As you can see from the results and the togetherness on the pitch there’s a lot more stability this season.

“Last year was hard as you didn’t know who you were going to be playing with each week, but we have a good dressing room with a good blend of youth and experience here. I think we will have a successful season.”

The former Basford man also thinks that Grantham can have another season to remember.

“Obviously we all have our opinions, but I think we can do very well this year.

“Like I said, we have a good mix of youth and experience in the squad and I think we can definitely finish in the top half of the table, and hopefully even make the play-offs.”
