Smith scored the winner with a headed goal in a 1-0 win over Basford United on Bank Holiday Monday and said the side are keen to remain grounded ahead of the rest of the season.
“I think it’s been a great start result wise, but it’s a long season and is only as good as your last result.
“We have been playing well though and picked up some good results against some good teams and we have the belief that we can beat anyone on our day.
“The games come thick and fast and we’ve got to remain focused on the rest of the challenges that face us this season.”
The local lad Smith also explained how it was an easy decision to sign for Grantham in the summer.
Smith re-joined Town in the summer after last being at The Meres in 2014 and said it was a no-brainer to play under Paul Rawden and Russ Cousins.
“Choosing Grantham was an easy decision.
“I’m a local lad who has grown up in Grantham and it has been a part of me all my life.
“I had a good chat with the manager and liked what he said which made the decision even easier.”
The journeyman has found the back of the net 34 times in 94 appearances during his spells at Grantham, including two goals in the two games over the weekend and believes it is one of the best parts of football.
“Scoring is one of the best feelings in football and is something I love to do as often as I can.
“The buzz from the fans is amazing but as great as it is to score goals, the best feeling in football in my opinion is winning.
“It doesn’t matter who scores to me as long as we get the three points by winning.”
Smith also has personal targets this season but also wants to give his teammates as much support as possible.
“I’d like to hit 20 goals this year but more importantly, I want to help the team win as many games as we can and finish as high as possible”
