Grantham Town’s Walking Football O50 team, sponsored by Everest, has slowly improved since its formation a couple of years ago.
With regular training sessions every Wednesday evening, the squad has grown and is finally a competitive team in the Lincs League but also in local tournaments.
In Sunday’s Christmas Pork Pie Cup in Melton, strong performances saw them progress to the semi-final for the first time. The 3-0 loss to Melton Blues came after a great performance against Melton Reds, with Simon Mason scoring the crucial winner.
A draw against Ashbourne and a narrow defeat to Rutland Ospreys saw the Gingerbreads come second in their group.
Kev Herbert, in goal, was on fine form but Grantham Player of the Tournament went to Dave Philpotts.
The Cup was eventually won by Leicester PF 88.
