It’s an East Midlands affair at The Meres on Monday as Basford United make the short trip from Nottingham to face Grantham.

The Gingerbreads return to league action on Monday after switching their focus to the FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday in which they beat Barton Town 3-1.

Gregg Smith opened the scoring before Barton equalised from the penalty spot, however goals from Craig Westcarr and Ryan Baldwin ensured that Grantham would be in the hat for the FA Cup draw on Tuesday.

Saturday’s win also extended the Black and White army’s unbeaten start to the season – with two wins and one draw from all competitions.

Having also not been in league action, Paul Rawden’s side dropped to seventh in the table, but do have a game in hand on rivals around them.

Nottinghamshire side Basford had an impressive Saturday as manager Steve Chettle secured his first victory in front of the home fans with a convincing 4-1 victory over Lancaster City.

Chettle has had an impressive start with the Yellows, picking up six points from a possible nine so far and currently sit in second place.

Fans will be familiar with some of the faces at the fellow East-Midlanders as Kieran Preston, Stefan Galinski and Lewis Carr all return to the Meres having had spells at the Gingerbreads.

Grantham boss Rawden is looking forward to what he believes will be a difficult encounter against their rivals.

He said: “Monday is going to be a really great occasion for both us and the fans.

“We have made a positive start to the season and we aim to continue that in front of our brilliant fans.

“Basford will be a difficult game for us, they have made a good start to the season and are still gelling under a new manager so are almost like an unknown opposition in some way, but we will have done our preparation to get the win and give it our best performance.”

Midfielder Ryan Hall could make his home debut against Basford after joining on loan from Spennymoor Town.

Hall made his first appearance for Grantham on Saturday at Barton and will be hoping to play in front of the home fans at the Meres.

Connor Bartle is still likely to be a doubt for Monday’s fixture as he recovers from injury.
