On The Road Again For The Gingerbreads

By Callum Boyle

Grantham play away from home again this weekend as they travel to Throstle Nest to face high flyers Farsley Celtic.

It was a disappointing result for Town last week after they surrendered an early lead to lose 3-1 away at Bamber Bridge.

Shaun Harrad smashed home from the penalty spot early in the first half however Bridge proved too strong and scored three goals in 12 minutes to leave the Gingerbreads in 13th place in the league standings.

Despite the loss at the weekend, Grantham still remain in good form - winning three of their last five games.

Home side Farsley Celtic have been in excellent form and are currently on a 14 game unbeaten run - including a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Warrington last Saturday.

Celtic also have the chance to move to the top of the table with victory this weekend due to Nantwich not being in action. In addtion, Farsley also have the advantage ahead of their rivals for the title with as many as four games in hand on their fellow competitors.

This is also the first meeting between the two sides this season, with the return fixture set to take place at the Meres in April.

Grantham boss Richard Thomas said his side need to put right their mistakes from Bamber Bridge and show a meaner side to them: "Everybody knows I wasn't happy with how we played last week.

"I didn't think we did enough and didn't help ourselves but now that's in the past and we have to look ahead to another difficult encounter.

"They're near the top for a reason but that doesn't mean we can't go there, frustrate them and get a result.

"I want the boys to show a meaner side to them. This side has great potential and are capable of achieving some great things and by having that extra bite we can cause a lot of upsets and pick up some big results to help move us up the table."

Thomas is expected to have a fully fit squad to select from for this weekend's game.
