Gingerbreads Aiming To Continue Unbeaten Run

By Callum Boyle

A win on Saturday could be enough for Grantham to move into top spot with a win against Hyde United.

After the magic of the FA Cup last Saturday, the Gingerbreads couldn't make it four wins in a row after surrendering a two goal lead to draw 2-2 away at North Ferriby United. Grantham had looked nailed on for another three points, after yet another wonder strike from Ross Barrows, as well as a just as impressive solo goal from Max Watters. However after two late goals in the closing minutes, Grantham were unfortunate to not take all three points.

The result was still enough to keep the Gingerbreads in and around the promotion spots - sitting in 7th place and now only three points off new league leaders, South Shields.

Hyde United, who were promoted last year have been struggling for form recently, failing to win any of their last five games, most recently losing 2-0 at home to Warrington Town. The defeat was the Tigers' second consecutive defeat after being knocked out in the FA Cup.

Despite the final result, Grantham boss Ian Culverhouse was impressed with the overall performance and his side will have learnt from their mistakes: "Obviously it was disappointing to concede two late goals, but looking at the bigger picture, we played very well for the majority of the game. It was a tough lesson to take but I know that the lads are keen to put it behind them and make up for it against a side who will provide us with another tough game. They may not have got the results they have wanted recently, but there is quality in their side and we must be prepared for their reaction."

Aiden Kirby has joined Aylestone Park on a dual registration. Tom Batchelor is still definitely ruled out through injury whilst Morgan Penfold is still a doubt for the game through injury as well. The rest of the squad is available for selection.
