First Away Game Of 2019 For The Gingerbreads

By Callum Boyle

After a winning start to the year, Grantham go on the road for the first time in 2019 as they face Bamber Bridge.

It was the perfect start to the year for the Gingerbreads after goals from Bradley Fortnum-Tomlinson and Shaun Harrad were enough to secure a 2-1 win against Basford to secure Town's first win at home since September 29th.

Goalkeeper Jordan Wright was also to thank, as he saved a penalty from Basford striker James Reid in a man-of-the-match display to help Grantham rise to 13th in the table.

The victory was also the first time the Gingerbreads had won back to back games since September, following the Boxing Day triumph at Gainsborough Trinity.

New Years Day wasn't as enjoyable for Saturday's opponents as Bamber Bridge as they were beaten 2-0 away at Warrington Town to leave them 16th in the table. 'The Brig' have also struggled for form recently - winning only one of their last five games.

This is the second time both sides have met this season after a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season, where Cenk Acar equalised after Bamber Bridge had taken the lead early in the second half.

Grantham boss Richard Thomas believes his side have what it takes to continue their good form: "We had the perfect Christmas period and I am delighted with the way we have played.

"It was great to beat two local sides, but we have put that behind us now and focus on the next test.

"They have quality and its the first game of the new year in front of their own fans so they will want to put on a show. We also have the quality though and I know that with the high intensity we display in games we can frustrate them and get a positive result."

Shaun Harrad will be available for one more game as his loan deal expires this weekend after the game in Lancashire. There are no injury concerns to report.

Updates will be provided across the usual social media channels.
