Grantham began the season in style with a 5 nil win over Marine
Marine had the first chance of the game but James Edgar’s shot was charged down by a Grantham defender. Grantham’s Jordan Hempenstall had the ball in the net after 8 minutes but play was brought back for an earlier foul. Grantham started to control play with Danny Meadows going close and Marine keeper Germano Mendez came out to thwart Curtis Burrows in a one on one. Danny Meadows tested Mendez again on 23 minutes before Marines George Hassel broke through but was crowded out before he could get his shot away. Grantham went ahead a minute before half time. Danny Meadows went down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Mendez blocked Andy Wrights kick but Wright followed up to put Grantham ahead. The half ended with Vincent Bailey having a chance for Marine but Danny Meadows put in a saving tackle.
The second half began with chances for both sides. James Edgar headed just wide for Marine and for Grantham Curtis Burrows shot at the keeper when well placed. Edgar again went close for Marine on the hour before Lee Shaw doubled Grantham’s lead when he latched onto a Danny Meadows flick on and when the ball came back off the bar he followed up to score. Grantham were now well on top and when Danny Meadows headed a free kick back across goal on 66 minutes Lee Shaw headed home from close range. Andy Wright made it four for Grantham after being played in by substitute Jeremiah Dasaolu. Substitute Jack McMenemy scored Grantham’s 5th goal on 86 minutes when he headed home a Luke Shaw cross.
