Grantham
Town have a new Chairman. A recent board meeting offered the post to current Director Steve Boam. After thinking the offer through, Mr Boam had accepted the post. Mr Boam complemented his predecessor.
“I would like to start by thanking Roger Booth for his tireless dedication to Grantham Town FC over the last five years.” Mr Boam said. “He has given us a sound foundation in very difficult times. Also a big thanks to Darron Quinn for stepping in for an interim period as Chairman.”
Mr Boam is a local businessman who has been involved at
Grantham
Town for the last five years. Referring to his fellow Directors, Mr Boam said,
“
Grantham
Town has a very strong Board of Directors and although Roger is standing down as Chairman, he will still be a very active member within our Board, acting as Vice-Chairman and maintaining his involvement at the club.”
As Mr Booth was aware, and Mr Boam immediately recognised, it is not just the Board of Directors who make the club run.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who help run
Grantham
Town,” he said. “The Supporters Club for their continued help and support, the fans who turn up both home and away, through thick and thin, backing Grantham regardless; not to mention the voluntary works carried out by a team if people dedicated to our football club as well as all of our sponsors.”
“My intentions for this club are clear,” Mr Boam explained. “Firstly to make sure there will always be a Grantham Town FC and secondly to try and play football at a level this club deserves. Unfortunately, this season so far has been very disappointing, but for the immediate future, to Board are backing our Management team of Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro to try and turn things around. They have accepted that they are partly responsible for the current position and are 100% committed to changing it. I ask that as a unit of fans, Directors and associated of
Grantham
Town, we all get behind the difficult take ahead.”
Described by many as being direct and a person who likes to get the job done, Mr Boam said,
“I do prefer the hands-on approach, and believe that with the right positive attitude, great things can be achieved. As a businessman, you sometimes have to be ruthless,” he concluded, “and this I will admit to, I will be ruthless in my aim to get
Grantham
Town back in the game.”
